Accused murderer released on bond

YELLVILLE — Stephen Fitzpatrick was released from Marion County Jail on Aug. 8 after meeting the $150,000 cash-only bond set for him by the court in January. Fitzpatrick is charged with the Dec. 25 first degree murder of Lucas Jewell. The accused is the uncle of the 43-year-old victim. Fitzpatrick is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning, Aug.14.

Drive sober or get pulled over

From Aug, 14 through Sept. 2, which includes the Labor Day holiday weekend, the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration (NHTSA) will be working alongside local law enforcement for the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" high-visibility enforcement campaign.

Fall '24 back to school

The summer break has come to an end, and the hallways of area schools are awakening with the sounds of students and educators. Some gray skies and rain on Tuesday helped to emphasize the winding down of summer, as halloween candies begin hitting the grocery store shelves and kids begin planning their halloween costumes.

AAA gas price report

The statewide gas price average in Arkansas was $3.06 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel on Thursday, according to the AAA Arkansas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is three cents less compared to that day last week and is 43 cents less per gallon compared to that day last year.

Yellville death occurred in summer heat

Marion County Sheriff Gregg Alexander reported that on Aug. 6, 2024 at approximately 4:45 p.m., deputies and first responders were called out to an unresponsive person located at a residence on Flintridge Lane in Flippin. A witness told deputies they drove by the property and saw a male slumped over the steering wheel of a tractor and stopped to check on him. The witness stated the male was unresponsive, prompting the witness to call 911 for assistance.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects that US residential electricity prices will increase by about 1% in 2024, the slowest rate of year-over-year growth since 2020. Natural gas prices have been falling since late 2023, and those lower prices are now being factored into retail electricity rates. Natural gas provides the largest share of U.S. electricity generation.

The Green Forest Tigers won the Class 3A State Soccer Tournament Saturday afternoon. The game was played at Estes Stadium on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. The Tigers  trailed at halftime, 1-0, but scored four goals in the middle of the second half to leave Class 3A with a state title. Green Forest will move to Class 4A for at least the next two seasons.
