In the last few weeks our country has witnessed a gruesome massacre of innocent children in Newtown, Ct., then only to have more acts of violence to follow in other parts of our country. The people responsible for the acts who survive need to be held responsible for what they have done and be prosecuted to the fullest, not pled down to lessor offenses. These attacks have done two things:

        Carole, apparently common sense doesn't prevail in your way of thinking. If I decided to rape you, how would you stop me if the police weren't in the room with us? Just curious...you might think that pepper spray will work, but it has been proven that it doesn't. Remember, Carole, no one ever raped a .38. Violent crime is far greater in the disarmed communist country of Great Britain than it is in the more well armed USA. Do your own research and come to a conclusion that makes sense. Right now, you don't.

        In light of this, I'll support Sheriff Moore in any way I can.

        @carole:

        If research, deductive reasoning and statistical significance won't change your opinion... what would, exactly?

        courageous lion, i commend your research but it doesnt change my opinion in the least...also, 'strong empirical evidence ' by whatever source, can masquerade as evidence and simply present a subjective opinion in the final ananysis but can make for an interesting read until one examines it closely

        I response to Carole...you my dear lady are sadly mistaken. John Lott a professor who did extensive studies into the subject wrote a book entitled More Guns Less Crime and found that wherever there are more guns there is less crime. For instance, Britain has the highest violent crime rate in the Eurozone. And they have the most restrictive gun laws in the entire continent. Where as the US my have more death by guns, if the true statistics were broadcast by the MSM, we have a lot less violent crime per capita than Britain does. And close to 3/4's of all gun related deaths are gang related criminals who could care less about any laws. Some are also suicides. Very few of the tactical rifles in existence are ever used in crime. (The media typically mistakenly calls tactical rifles "assault" rifles. Nothing is an assault anything unless it is USED for assault)

        Does allowing people to own or carry guns deter violent crime? Or does it simply cause more citizens to harm each other? Directly challenging common perceptions about gun control, legal scholar John Lott presents the most rigorously comprehensive data analysis ever done on crime statistics and right-to-carry laws. This timely and provocative work comes to the startling conclusion: more guns mean less crime. In this paperback edition, Lott has expanded the research through 1996, incorporating new data available from states that passed right-to-carry and other gun laws since the book's publication as well as new city-level statistics.

        "Lott's pro-gun argument has to be examined on the merits, and its chief merit is lots of data. . . . If you still disagree with Lott, at least you will know what will be required to rebut a case that looks pretty near bulletproof."--Peter Coy, Business Week

        "By providing strong empirical evidence that yet another liberal policy is a cause of the very evil it purports to cure, he has permanently changed the terms of debate on gun control. . . . Lott's book could hardly be more timely. . . . A model of the meticulous application of economics and statistics to law and policy."--John O. McGinnis, National Review

        As for gun toting cowboys in the public schools? So what makes a Harrison Policeman with a gun less of a cowboy than a county Sheriff? And how will the police protect "you"? Do you go to the public school? The police carry guns to protect themselves, not you. And if you don't make the effort to protect yourself because you somehow believe a policeman's life is worth less than yours, well get a life and grow up.

        @ Ragman:

        You might want to check your AR Constitution. A County Sheriff trumps a City Police Chief.

        Looks like old Mike has received his talking points from Rushbo.
        Glad I live in Harrison city limits where we will have police protection
        from gun toting cowboys on school campuses.
