Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Holt Memorial Chapel, with burial at Maplewood Cemetery; Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Holt Memorial Chapel.

Bernice Martin, 105, of Harrison, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 19 (2018) at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, both at Holt Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Dr. David Artman will officiate. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers are David Edward Martin, Dr. Larry Sharp, Judge Doug Martin, John Martin Jr., Jim Martin, Jay Martin, Joe Don Martin and Austin Martin.

The daughter of James Wilson Villines and Cornelia Watson Villines was born April 18, 1913, at Harrison. She was an excellent basketball player on the high school team when they had six players on a team and played half court. They were known as the “bloomer girls” because of the uniforms they wore She also played on the team at Arkansas Tech as a designated shooter. Through the years she enjoyed spirited games with younger members of the family and was usually on the winning side.

She worked many years at Clark & Eoff Furniture Store and Guys and Dolls Children’s Wear. Always immaculately dressed and groomed, she was a role model for younger women. She enjoyed doing yard work and was still raking her leaves well after her 100th birthday. She was featured in the Harrison Daily Times in several editions to encourage Senior Citizens to stay active. She was a longtime member of Harrison’s First Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by the father of her children, F.H. “Ranger Jim” Martin; her second husband, Bruce Martin; three sons, F.H. Martin Jr., Dr. David Martin and his wife Jody, and an infant son; granddaughter, Patti Sharp Taylor; eight brothers, Garland, Dewey, Jennings, Woodrow, Willard, Merle, Judge Joe Villines, and an infant; and two sisters, Elsie Mount and Pebble Villines.

Survivors include her children, Ann Sharp, John Martin (Peggy), and Don Martin (Jeannie); daughter-in-law, Myrna Martin; 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Lou Etta Villines.
