Service: 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Parthenon Baptist Church under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.

Charles M. Shelton, age 79, of Harrison, departed this life to be with his Lord on Monday, April 30 (2012) at his home.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Parthenon Baptist Church. Pastor Jamey James will officiate.

He was born Nov. 28, 1932, at Parthenon, a son of the late William R. and Della (Hudson) Shelton.

He retired from Arkansas Tech University, serving as registrar and math professor. He also served as superintendent of Plainview Arkansas Schools. He was a member of Jasper Lodge No. 77 and a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army.

Charles was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed his research in family genealogy and cherished the time he spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lula Belle (Waters) Shelton and brothers, Dorwin, Harland, Ford and Gene Shelton.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine (Burdine) Shelton, of the home; a son, Billy Shelton and his wife, Tracy, of Corpus Christi, Texas; a stepson, David Farmer and companion, Victoria Young, of Jasper; sisters, Beulah Reynolds, of Little Rock and Wilma Carter, of Owasso, Okla.; brothers, Gerald Shelton and wife, Shirley, of Parthenon, William Shelton, of Wayton and Sammie Shelton and wife, Karen, of Harrison; four grandchildren, Carter and Eruma Shelton and Justin and Laura Farmer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Scholarship Fund in the name of Charles Shelton at First National Bank of Green Forest, P.O. Box 506, Jasper.
