Effie Horton Long, 91, died Wednesday, April 27 (2011) at the Newton County Nursing Home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Holt Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 2, at the Eagle Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Crenshaw  officiating. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Pulliam, Danny Norton, Bryan Welytok, Todd Horton, Jeff Hutchison and Brandon Brock.

The daughter of Molee and Cora (Faught) Berry was born on Feb. 28, 1920, at Oark. Effie was an active member of the Eagle Heights Baptist Church for 45 years and was also active in her community. She was artistic and enjoyed painting, crocheting, quilting and decopauging. She loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Troy Horton and Frank Long; a daughter, Judith Ann Ernest; an infant son, Larry Rex Horton; two brothers, Oliver and Arvie Berry; and two sisters, Zettie Young and Ortha Heater.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Jim and Patricia Horton of Harrison, Dean and Wilma Horton of Rogers and Tony and Marsha Horton of Harrison; one daughter and her husband, Teresa and Richard Woods of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three brothers, Corbie Berry of Jasper, Omer Berry of Modesto, Calif. and Harley Berry of Independence, Mo.; one sister, Stella Freeman, of Sanger, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
