Elsie Crosswhite, 96, of Lead Hill, died Tuesday, April 19 (2011) at Lead Hill.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Peel Full Gospel Church, with the Rev. Carroll “Curly” Johnson and the Rev. Howard Saylors officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Milum Cemetery, Lead Hill. Pallbearers will be Steve Akins, Lee Akins, Jimmy Townsley, Billy Akins, Rodney Parker and Jeffrey Parker. Honorary pallbearers include Keith Akins, Stan Akins, David White, Jerry and Betty Long, Jim Bell, Dr. Bob Ahrens, Dr. Richard Chitsey and the Marion County Nursing Home staff.

The daughter of William R. and Etta Rose Holmes Austin was born May 24, 1914, at Claremore, Okla. Mrs. Crosswhite was a member of the Peel Full Gospel Church. She loved quilting, working in the garden and going to family gatherings and also enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Mrs. Crosswhite was a homemaker and had skills of a pioneer lady in making lye soap and providing for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of her children, Wilburn Razze Akins; second husband, Jewell Crosswhite; three sons, W.M. “Sleepy,” Bob and Danny Akins; four grandchildren, Mark and Duke Akins, Joey McNish and Sharon Strahan; three sisters, Ruby, Velsie and Oma Mae; and 10 brothers, Sam, Elvie, Erin, Marion, Coy, Loy, Robert, Thomas, William and Ronnie.

She is survived by daughters, Wanda and husband George Long and Lou Townsley; sons, Jack and wife Louise Akins and Joe and wife Diane Akins; brothers, Ernest Austin and Dean Austin; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
