George Paxton Stapleton, 85, of Texas City, Texas, passed away Tuesday, April 12 (2011) at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, in Texas City, Texas, with Dr. Grayson Glass officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until service time. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, April 15, at Maplewood Cemetery in Harrison.
Mr. Stapleton was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Harrison, to Leslie Carl and Bessie Irene Stapleton. He was a 1943 graduate of Harrison High School and served in the U.S Army in Europe during World War II. Mr. Stapleton spent his career in the construction business and retired as the Director of Public Works for Texas City, Texas in the early 1990s.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Pamela Jean; and three sisters, Helen Jean Hickenbottom, Betty Jo Stapleton and Shirley Ann Hudnall.
Survivors include his son, Leslie A. Stapleton; his grandson, Justin Stapleton of Harrison; his granddaughters, Tona Stapleton of Yakima, Wash. and Stephanie Mochamer of Olathe, Kan.; six great-grandchildren; a sister Wanda O’Brien of Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
