Ruth Rodgers, age 92, of Harrison, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16 (2019) at Hillcrest Home in Harrison.  

She was born Feb. 25, 1926, in Low Gap, the daughter of Berry and Bessie (Rice) Kilgore.  

Her parents, four brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Ruth was of the Baptist faith. She lived in Low Gap and began working at age 16. She married Bernie Keeling at the age of 18. She worked at Oberman’s in Harrison.

After the loss of her husband, Ruth moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she met and married her husband, Sallie Rodgers. Ruth resided in Virginia Beach for over 47 years. While in Virginia Beach, Ruth worked on a Navy base and later went on to work as a deputy at a women’s jail for 10 years. 

Ruth was a very giving and generous person her entire life. She enjoyed fishing, collecting marbles, bingo and traveling. She loved her family dearly and looked forward to family gatherings “back home.”

When her health began to fail, Ruth moved back home to Harrison in July 2016. She enjoyed being back home with family and friends. Ruth moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home where she met her special friends, Lillian and Vic. 

Ruth is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Bernie and Francis Keeling and Carson and Jean Edmonson; her grandchildren, Craig Keeling, Cindy Keeling, Melissa Edmonson, Jennifer Edmonson and Rebecca Edmonson; and her great-grandchildren, Alex, River, Arya and Brynlee.

Ruth is also survived by her brothers, Kenneth Kilgore and Truman Kilgore; a host of nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Hillcrest Home, with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Home. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Craig Keeling, Brian Capps, Vic Yoder, Steve McBee, Bill Lovell and Curtis Lane.

Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Hillcrest Home.

Ruth’s family would like to thank the staff of Hillcrest Home for the love and care they gave her.
