John G. Baughman, 86, of Harrison, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 15 (2017) surrounded by his loving family. John was born on Aug. 31, 1930, in Hasty, to Earnest and Rentha Baughman. From 1950-53, he proudly and honorably served his country in the Korean War in the U.S. Army, First Calvary Division. He married his wife, Shirley Snow, on Aug. 25, 1956, and they had two children, Beverly and Johnny “Doug” Baughman.

After he retired from Ford Motor Company in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1977, he moved with his family to his favorite place in the world, the family farm in the Ozarks.

John was passionate about many things he valued in life — education and learning, even remarking how he was still learning every day at age 86; the outdoors, he loved fishing, hiking, floating, and camping around the Buffalo River and surrounding areas; trusting God and honoring his country and fellow veterans; spending quality time with his close family and good friends; and enjoying good food and music (even singing Karaoke in his 80s); and family pets.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Snow Baughman of Harrison; a daughter Beverly Baughman of Frisco, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law Doug and Mary Jean Baughman of Springdale; two grandchildren Jonathan and Victoria Baughman of Springdale; a brother Thomas Baughman of Tupelo, Mississippi; a sister Drena Ewing of Western Grove; many nieces and nephews; his dear lifetime friends, Charles and Shirley Brown of Springfield, Missouri, and his adopted-dog Winston. He will be missed by all of us.

His family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff of Hillcrest Home and Rehabilitation Center in Harrison for the compassionate care they provided to him and his family during his time there.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Coffman Funeral Home, 501 Old Bellefonte Road, in Harrison, followed immediately by a military graveside service in Alpena Cemetery at Alpena at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that you make a donation in his name to Hillcrest Home and Rehabilitation Center, 1111 Maplewood Road, Harrison, AR 72601 or your local Humane Society.
