Service: 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison, with interment at Silver Hill Cemetery; Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the funeral home.

JZ Carter, of Valley Springs, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16 (2018) at home in Valley Springs, with his family by his side, at the age of 89.

JZ was born June 24, 1929, in Dongola, to Garfield and Isabell Carter.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margie Carter. 

He is survived by his two daughters, Darlene (Jim) Methvin, of Lead Hill, and Vicki (Dale) Reed, of Gillett; his grandchildren, Lisa (Barry) Brown, of Harrison, Brian (Sheri) Reed, of Bryant, Gloria Taylor, of Harrison, Brandy (Eric) Still, of Lead Hill, Jamie (Michelle) Methvin, of Conway, Meliah (Ben) Ross of Harrisburg, Illinois, Chance Reed, of Fayetteville, and Brittany Reed of Fayetteville; along with 13 great-grandchildren.

He met the love of his life in Farmersville, California, and they were married in San Bernardino. They moved back and forth between California and Texas before moving permanently to Arkansas. He spent 40 years driving a semi-truck. He would tell many stories about the people he moved and the places he had been throughout all his travels across the US and Canada. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and has loved baseball all his life.

JZ was a member of the following organizations during his life; Arkansas and National Democratic Parties, Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association, 32nd Degree Mason, Blue Lodge Mason, Shriner, Harrison Round-Up Club, Boone County Farm Bureau, and he was a Yellow Dog Democrat! He was a former Justice of the Peace and proudly married many couples in his home and anywhere they asked to deliver the service. He faithfully attended Everton Baptist Church and was a senior church council member.

Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Harrison, with Brother Tony Whitsell officiating. Interment will follow at Silver Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Chance Reed, Brian Reed, Eric Still, Paul Smith, Robert Meek and Gabe Hensely.

Honorary pallbearers are Austin Smith, Eddie Carter, Mitchell Grinder, Ernie (Hank) Hankins and Jason Baker.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the funeral home.
