Leola Wheeler, 88

Leola (Ramsey) Wheeler, age 88, was born Sept. 24, 1922, at Swain, and fell asleep in death Friday, April 29 (2011) at Harrison.

A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Holt Memorial Chapel. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Walnut Cemetery in Swain, with Vern Nelson officiating. Pallbearers will be Kevin Wheeler, Rick Wheeler, Ragan Wheeler, David Wheeler, Ron Wheeler and Brian Force.

Leola lived most of her life in Newton County, and she took great pleasure in spending time with her family. Leola was baptized Dec. 12, 1959, in Clarksville and enjoyed association with the Deer Arkansas Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 60 years as well as the Harrison Arkansas Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses the past five years.

Leola’s interests included studying God’s word, the Bible, growing flowers, cooking, doing hand crafts and sewing such as quilting, reading and she was fond of gardening as well as sharing the family garden produce with others. She led a full and satisfying life.

Leola is remembered best for always serving her cooking along with a large portion of love. She had an infectious smile and unwavering faith in our Creator Jehovah and his precious son Jesus Christ as well as faith in the Bible hope “there is going to be a resurrection,” Acts 24:15.

“I have fought the fine fight; I have run the course to the finish. I have observed the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie L. Wheeler and their oldest son, James Roy Wheeler; her parents, Carlie and Josie Ramsey; brothers, Audy, Jess, Rastus, Junior and Doy Ramsey and sisters, Lora Weston, Leah Trenary, Dotha Sparks and Josephine Bennett.

She is survived by her son, Doyle Wheeler and his wife Valerie of Walnut Valley, Newton County; a sister, Opha Sparks of Harrison; eight grandchildren, Kevin Wheeler of Keokuk, Iowa and his wife Jeanie, Ragan Wheeler of Williamstown, Mo. and Wanda, Sonya (Wheeler) Platt of Quincy, Ill. and her husband David, Ron Wheeler of South Beloit, Ill. and his wife Lisa, Rick Wheeler of Washington, Iowa, Elizabeth (Wheeler) Alcantara of Newton County, David Wheeler of Newton County and Rebecca (Wheeler) Force and her husband Brian of Omaha; seven great-grandchildren, Tressa Wheeler, Logan Wheeler, Brandi Nelson, Anna Moore, Lynette Moore, Amber Stevens, Keagan Wheeler, Kelly Wheeler and Jake Wheeler; four great-great-grandchildren, Morgan, Quentin, Jocelyn, and Ally; and a large number of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. All will remember her with much love.
