Herman graduated at the top of his class from Olvey High School. He attended both Baylor University and Texas A&M. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired dairy farmer.

His hobbies were watching basketball (and we’re sure he’s still hoping for Duke to get beat) reading anything and working crossword puzzles. He enjoyed his trips to Siloam, the Game Room and music shows. He loved playing cards with family and friends.

He had a real talent for sharing jokes. Until his final days, he enjoyed aggravating his kids and wife. He always gave his kids free advice whether they requested it or not. His number one job was taking care of his family, which he did for more than 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, Elena (Tabor) Savage of the home; sons, Curt Savage of Alpena, David Savage of Omaha, Rick Savage of Ava, Mo. and Steve Savage of Alpena; daughters, Connie Grisham and husband David of Alpena, Phyllis Youngblood and husband Danny of Harrison, Pat “Tissy” Savage of Green Forest and Lana Savage of Alpena; a brother, Rex Savage of Harrison; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren (and a great-grandson due in June, Leonard Kyle); five step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
