Ruby Nichols died Thursday, Nov. 15 (2018).

Ruby was born in Red Rock and moved to California when she was approximately 14 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodroe W. Nichols, in 2010. She met Woodroe and they were married on Oct. 23, 1948, in Reno, Nevada. Although they were born only miles from each other in Arkansas, they never knew each other until they met in California when Woodroe got out of the Navy after World War II.

They had three children all born in Richmond, California: Eric Nichols of San Francisco, California, Rodger Nichols and wife Heidi of Youngsville, Louisiana, and Myra (Nichols) Walker and husband Brian of Bonney Lake, Washington; five grandchildren, Bill Whitney and wife Kimmie of Oakley, California, Amber Walker of Buckley, Washington, Jason Walker of Buckley, Washington, Damon Nichols of Greeley, Colorado, and Woody Nichols of Lafayette, Louisiana; and four great-grandchildren, Anthony Whitney, Tannen Walker, Trinity Nichols and Zander Nichols.

She had seven sisters and three brothers, Dean, Jody, Virginia, Ava, Bill, Lymon and Curgus who preceded her in death, and Maggie of California, Sue of Oregon, and Barbara of Arizona.

Ruby loved to fish, hunt and go camping with the family. Ruby was in the Order of the Eastern Star of California and she was a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Reno for 14 years. They lived in Reno for over 40 years.

Ruby will be buried next to Woodroe in the Mt. Judea Cemetery, with services at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Mt. Judea Church of Christ.
