Ruth N. Threet, 78, Jonesboro

Ruth N. Threet, 78 of Jonesboro, passed away Monday evening, March 21 (2011) at Jonesboro.

Mrs. Threet was born in Childress and had lived in Jonesboro for the past 11 years after moving from Lead Hill, with her husband, Dr. Kenneth Threet. As a pastor’s wife and long time educator, Mrs. Threet served in the communities of Piggott, Mountain Home, Forrest City, Oran, and Ft. Worth, Texas.

Mrs. Threet was a graduate of Childress High School, valedictorian of Southern Baptist College and earned a BSE in history from ASU. A respected mathematics educator, Mrs. Threet completed 30 years of service in the public school system. Mrs. Threet contributed to the national defense when working for General Dynamic to develop a formula for construction of ejection seats for Air Force jets.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice Taylor and Johnnie Taylor Scott; a brother and sister-in-law, Norman Glenn and Claudette Taylor; and a grandson, Ryan Threet.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Kenneth Threet of the home; two sons, Bill Threet and wife Doreen of Jonesboro and John Threet and wife Donna of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; two daughters, Kenne Threet Grafton and husband Jon of Alexandria, La. and Lisa Mason of Jonesboro; a brother, Jerry Holland and wife Janie of Gainesville, Fla.; a sister, Sharon Wilson and husband Aubrey of Cherokee Village; grandchildren, Tyson Wade, Cory Wade and wife Laura Beth, Shanna Threet, Russell Threet and wife Sarah, Kimberly Myers and husband Jamin, Christal Niemeyer and husband Dan, Nichole Runion, Don Grafton, Ken Grafton, and Amanda Veal and husband Larry; and nine great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Emerson Funeral Home, Jonesboro. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at Nettleton Baptist Church in Jonesboro, with Dr. Stan Ballard, Harold Ray and Raymond Atwood officiating. The committal service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eddie Sykes, Clarence Sykes, Larry Hunter, Dwayne Richey, Lee Melton and Del Gimeniz.
