A Harrison Police report shows that a witness saw some people vandalizing a billboard on the Bypass early Friday morning and reported it to police. Now it’s under investigation as a criminal matter.

The report shows the witness called police about 12:10 a.m. Friday to report seeing several people vandalizing the sign.

The sign, which has drawn much controversy since it went up, is bright yellow with the words “Anti-Racist is a Code Word for Anti-White” emblazoned on it in black letters. The vandals had painted over part of the last two word and wrote the word “Love” on it.

Assistant Police Chief Paul Woodruff said the witness saw the act in progress and was able to give police the license plate number of a vehicle seen leaving the area Friday morning.

He said the incident is an open criminal mischief investigation and no formal report had been finalized by Friday afternoon.

Jesse, of course I noticed that the speech police were attacking me and not my argument. This is how they operate! When they can't come up with a logical response to your point, they resort to such tactics as trying to change the subject, name-calling, personal insults, etc. Also, for the record, “Anti-Racist is a Code Word for Anti-White” does NOT mean that if you are white you are automatically racist. What it means is that what is commonly called anti-racism today is in reality racism against white people! However, I digress. My point is that the First Amendment which gives the person who originally put up the sign right to do so is the same First Amendment which you and I the right to come on here and speak our minds, and also the same First Amendment which gives the "speech police" the right to come on here and spout their inane drivel. Freedom of Speech must apply equally to ALL Americans regardless!

Vandalism is wrong regardless of what the speech police say.

"Anti-racist is a code word for Anti-white"....which means, if you are white, then of course your racist. And if you are anti-racist then you are anti-white...so,Big, a race was mentioned, the white race. To say that being anti-racist is somehow the equivalent of being anti-white is ludicrous. This message is THE message of white suprematism. This is not a book laying in a book store or hidden on a shelf, it's an 8x12 screaming reminder of how cruel and insensitive some people can allow themselves to stoop to. The pain people have suffered at the hands of those with a desire to descriminte by race is well documented and tragic. Freedom of speech is like free will, you reap what you sow.

I am defending free speech and ONLY free speech. I don't hate anyone - hatred is a very bad thing! All the sign originally said was “Anti-Racist is a Code Word for Anti-White”. It didn't say anything more - it didn't say anything less. It didn't advocate hating anyone, it didn't mention racial segregation, it didn't target any particular race (therefore, no one was threatened), and it didn't say anything about Nazis, Hitler, or storm troopers. And Tracker Scout, I hate to be the one to have to tell you this, but no one has the right to not be offended! Here is a quote from Sir Salmon Rushdie, who states the case far more eloquently than I ever could:

"Nobody has the right to not be offended. That right doesn't exist in any declaration I have ever read. If you are offended it is your problem, and frankly lots of things offend lots of people.

"I can walk into a bookshop and point out a number of books that I find very unattractive in what they say. But it doesn't occur to me to burn the bookshop down. If you don't like a book, read another book. If you start reading a book and you decide you don't like it, nobody is telling you to finish it."

In other words, if you don't like the original wording of the sign, either complain to the owner of the sign company, or shell out the cash and have your own sign erected with any counter-message of your choosing! The First Amendment applies equally to ALL citizens of these United States, and that includes the person(s) who originally paid for the sign in the first place! Jeez, some people need a refresher course in civics!

What if the car leaving the area, had nothing what so ever to do with rewording the White Supremacist sign,or were the observers there the whole time watching the said vandals, noted the registered number of the vehicle, then watched it drive off.It seems strange that the person who made the call to police stayed there so close, would the average person stop and walk up to the vehicle and take the plate number or did they have binoculars.I personally think that the replacement wording is without a doubt friendlier to all races of people,or is the sign there to aggravate non white visitors to Harrison.People may have rights under the constitution to freedom of speech,on the other hand, people have a right to not feel threatened by signs that target particular races of people. We all know what Nazi's did during WW2 to people and also U.S service and Allied personnel.Do we need another Hitler and storm troopers ruling the military and Police force.

Is it really free speech you're in defense of or is it the overwhelming desire to hate anyone outside your race? Do you really think in this day and age there is any need to hold such backward ideologies as race segregation? This sign was a call to hate another, is that what our free speech was intended for?

Zenkiwarrior, YOU sound as though you are condoning VANDALISM, which is exactly what this is! You also sound as though you don't believe in free speech (unless you agree with the message)! These COWARDLY VANDALS ought to be arrested, prosecuted, and forced to pay for restoring the sign to its original condition! No one EVER has any right to tamper with another person's right to free speech, NO MATTER WHAT!

You all sound as though it was your sign. You must have agreed with the sentiment or it would have sparked no interest in you. So "white supremacy" is where you stand on this? And the signs new message was inclusive of all, where is the crime in that? If a message is not rooted in the love of all, it must be abandoned; for the day may come when you will be in need of such love.

These gutless, cowardly chickens___s ought to be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. If they don't agree with the sign's message, that's their prerogative, but NO ONE has ANY right to tamper with another person's right to free speech, regardless of the content of that speech!

The sign has no meaning when you put Anti Racist code word for Anti White. Most anti racists are white and get along fine with all races if people.I would like to see the code book that has all the codes, there must be more not just one.White Supremacists are mostly unemployed transients moving from state to state flying their flags and causing trouble in small country towns.

I see the little fascist bullies are at it again. They are too cheap and petty to pay for their own sign ( ala 1st Amendment rights) so they slither like the snakes they are, under cover of darkness and obstruct someone else's right to free speech. So who are the REAL HATERS now? At least the "signman" puts his money where his mouth is. Oh, did I forget to mention, these little fascist sign defacers are cowards too? Go away! You don't speak for me or the vast majority!
