IPRA Rodeo Saturday schedule

The Harrison Round-Up Club is hosting the IPRA Rodeo this week at their arena located at the Northwest Arkansas District Fairgrounds in Harrison. The event kicked off Thursday and continues through Saturday.

This has been a long week for me. It started last Sat. Sept. 21 when our beloved dog Bo went to doggie Heaven. Bo was 14 years old when we got him and we knew the day would come but we wasn’t ready for it. We sure do miss him but we still got Arnold and he is lonesome without Bo. We might get him a friend.

FOL announces book sale

Boone County Friends of the Library has announced their 2024 fall book sale. Funds from the sale will benefit library programs. They will have unopened, leatherbound, gilt-edged collector-quality books from Easton Press including pictorial histories of WW1, Vietnam, and the life and legacy of JFK, as well as first edition recent releases in fiction in excellent condition. Swing by the sale and do some early Christmas shopping. Books are priced to go home to be enjoyed. The sale will take place at Signature Tower, 303 N. Main St., in Harrison.

NAPHE hosts free workshop

The North Arkansas Partnership for Health Education (NAPHE) is hosting an interactive workshop on Pickleball and Prevention at the Brandon Burlsworth Youth Center from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., on Oct. 8. Pickleball has become one of the most social sports and provides an opportunity for people of all ages to play.

I had mentioned the old brush arbor at Crossroads a few weeks back. Our cousin Willard Villines actually built the brush arbor with some help from a few folks. A few years later, a tabernacle was built in its place. I understand a larger tabernacle has been constructed since then. It has been many years since I was at Crossroads.

School reunions coming to Jasper

JASPER — It’s back to school as the Jasper Alumni School Reunion is to be held on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Branded Fall Festival announced

Branded Equine Based Therapy Services will host their 2nd annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 19, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. The family-friendly event will include horse rides, hay rides, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, face painting, hay maze and more. Admission to the event is free but wristbands will be available for certain activities. The event will take place at 3917 Keener Lane in Harrison.

NARMC board meeting held

The North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC) monthly board meeting was held on Tuesday, Sept. 24. NARMC CEO, Sammie Cribbs expressed her excitement for the success of recent events such as a golf tournament benefiting Hospice of the Hills, the District Fair, and the Balloon Fest. She then pivoted to share equal enthusiasm for upcoming events including Harvest Homecoming, the Harrison Goblins Pink-Out Night on Oct. 25, the Annual Day of Giving on Oct. 26, and more.

YELLVILLE — Marion County Sheriff Gregg Alexander reports the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State University Mountain Home sponsored a Public Safety Instructor Development course this week on the ASUMH campus.

Big Diamond promises big laughs

BENTONVILLE — Big Diamond Comedy Festival is the brainchild of two comedians: Sam Tallent (Comedy Central, Joe Rogan Experience, author of bestseller “Running the Light”) and Raj Suresh (Comedy Dynamics, AppleTV+, SiriusXM). Possible school threats investigated

WESTERN GROVE — Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler said in a press release Tuesday, Sept. 24, his office was notified by school personnel of intercepted social media communications that indicated a possible threat at the Ozark Mountain School District’s Western Grove Campus.

She is an RN, a certified EMT, and has received her Trauma Nursing Core Course Certification (TNCC) and certification in Advanced Stroke Life Support. She also serves the hospital as the Stroke Coordinator, Nurse Facilitator, and Emergency Room Quality Coordinator.

Green light for greenhouse

WESTERN GROVE — The Ozark Mountain School District Board of Education met Tuesday night, Sept. 24, and gave the green light to begin construction of a new greenhouse at the Western Grove campus after accepting bids for the structure and excavation work.

Cadyn Deakins, a member of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) at Harrison Middle School, represented her school at the FCCLA National Conference held in Seattle, Wash., in late June 2024. Competing against students from schools across the nation in the Food Innovations category, Cadyn demonstrated skill and creativity, earning a gold medal and placing in the top ten nationally.
