Yvonne Cone is retiring from the Harrison Daily Times after 46 years.

“I was originally hired as one of three proofreaders and I was a typist. We typed on a compugraphic machine that printed out on a roll of computer tape. That paper was placed into another machine which would read it,” she said.

Former owner, the late J.E. Dunlap hired her and when he was out of town, he would call the office and dictate his column over the phone for her to type. Yvonne remembers J.E. saying, “If you don’t do it right the first time, when are you going to find time to do it again?”

“When I joined the Harrison Daily Times in 2001, Yvonne was already an integral part of the newsroom. When Lifestyle editor Shirley Curtis retired in 2006, Yvonne welcomed the opportunity to assume the editor role. She has shined in that position and we will miss her kind spirit and dedication to providing the best in community news to our readers,” Lynn Blevins, HDT managing editor said.

She has faithfully inserted news, school menus, births, school events, engagements, weddings, anniversaries and community events special birthdays for customers, Newspapers in Education photos and community correspondents. She also does feature stories for the weekend People section.

Yvonne is a 1971 graduate of Jasper High School and the wife of Wayne S. Cone. They have three children and nine grandchildren. Her last day at the Harrison Daily Times will be Tuesday, June 18.

Donna has written for the HDT for more than 19 years. When off the clock, she enjoys writing for children, teaching piano lessons and being a pastor's wife. The Braymers have three married sons and daughter-in-laws and 9 grandchildren.
