North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC) closed their Lead Hill rural health clinic — Claude Parrish Community Health Center, in early January, leading many in the Lead Hill area to react with concern. The closure was part of a long-term strategic realignment undertaken by the hospital as it attempts to balance rising costs against low insurance reimbursements. in response, public meetings were organized by some concerned Lead Hill residents, as they lamented the news that their healthcare options would be limited to traveling to Harrison to see their healthcare providers or utilizing remote telehealth services. more
Harrison High School hosted a "Day of Opportunities" for area students on Friday. This is the fourth year the school has hosted this event. Businesses and students connected throughout the day to discuss job and higher education opportunities in the community. Each year, the event has grown — seeing more and more businesses and students participate. more
MOUNTAIN HOME — After unanimous votes by both the Fulton County Quorum Court on Tuesday, Feb. 20, and the Baxter Health System Board of Directors on Wednesday, Feb. 28, Fulton County Hospital has reached a long-term agreement to become part of the Baxter Health System. Baxter Health will continue to manage Fulton County Hospital for the remainder of 2024 under the current management agreement and will execute the long-term lease by Jan. 1, 2025. more

LITTLE ROCK — In 2023, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) certified 50 businesses as minority- and women-owned business enterprises through the Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Certification Program. These 50 businesses bring the total number of Arkansas businesses that have received the MWBE certification to 335. more

DEER — The Deer/Mt. Judea School District Board of Education approved sending interested school staff members to take emergency response training this summer. Last month, the board met via internet with Kurt Banta, owner of Emergency Response Training LLC, based in Gentry, about creating a district-wide security department and securing training for commissioned school security officers (CSSO). At the end of that meeting the board named Superintendent Bill Mazaur the department manager, but wanted to meet with Banta again to ask some additional questions, basically concerning cost, when it met at its regular meeting that was held Feb. 20. more
As the early voting for the upcoming March 5 Super Tuesday Presidential Primary as well as the primary for state and local elections continues at the Boone County Election Center in Harrison, the number of voters has more than doubled since last Friday. more

Work continues on the Main Street Bridge in Harrison.  The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) closed the bridge on Tuesday, Jan. 2, A new bridge will be built, scheduled to be completed in 2026 for approximately $10 million. more

JASPER — Newton County Community Matters celebrated its first anniversary and held it annual membership meeting Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Jasper Methodist Church. Members elected the new slate of officers and shared pieces of an anniversary cake along with other refreshments during the meeting. more
