Some neighbors of the 124 South Oak Street address called attention to their safety concerns associated with traffic using West Central and limited parking on South Oak.

Arkansas' Great North American Eclipse coming Monday, April 8, 2024, is predicted to be a financial boon for Jasper and Newton County. Parts of 53 of Arkansas' 75 counties will be in the path of totality, and Jasper will be in one of the must-visit spots where a person can have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Some areas of the state will experience up to 4 minutes and 20 seconds of totality. Jasper, according to latest projections, is expected to be in total darkness for 2 minutes and 10 seconds as the moon passes directly between Earth and the sun.

The Arkansas Department of Health has announced that 19 influenza-related deaths have been reported in the state so far this flu season, including one pediatric death. That’s an increase from 14 in the previous report, but still below the 30 deaths reported in the 2021-22 flu season.

KINGSTON — School maintenance work sometimes requires the use of an aerial lift and the Jasper School District has only one that is frequently transported between its three campuses. These moves are frequent, especial during basketball season when work has to be done on scoreboards, shot clocks and lighting, and at graduation and other times when the schools schedule special events when decorations, curtains or other items have to be lifted into place.

Veterans from Camp Jack and volunteers with the Harrison Convention and Visitors Bureau have put up holiday lights and decorations around the downtown area of the city, and beginning the Monday after Thanksgiving, recorded holiday music will be heard on the square through the Boone County Courthouse's loudspeaker system, announced Mayor Jerry Jackson at the conclusion of the regular city council meeting last Thursday night. He thanked all involved.
