The Boone County Heritage Museum is looking for all the support it can get, especially for a section of the roof.

Museum director Toinette Madison said a new roof was installed on the museum several years ago, but one section wasn’t included in the bid. That is the only section of the roof that’s flat.

In that time, water has created serious damage to the ceiling under the roof. It’s only visible from the attic of the museum.

Madison said estimates have been secured of about $20,000 to reroof that section and to repair the structural damage, which will have to be done before a roofing crew can have a stable surface.

But the museum and accompanying Historical Society are true non-profit agencies and the money to make those repairs isn’t in the budget.

So museum officials are now in the process of trying to raise additional funds for both projects. The museum is a 501(c)(3) organization, Madison said, so donations are tax deductible.
