Loyd Dodson Jr., of Harrison, and formerly of Cave Creek, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 18 (2018). He was 75 years old.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Holt Memorial Chapel.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at Holt Memorial Chapel. Dennis Tennison and Roger Greenhaw will officiate. Burial will be in Ben’s Branch Cemetery. Pallbearers are Kelly Dodson, Garry Dodson, Jordan Dodson, Rocky Nichols, Kurt Horn, Gene Bell, Brad Maberry and Dale Tennison. Honorary pallbearers include Ben Eddings, Joe Eddings, Jack Dodson, Jacob Dodson, Charles Christopher, Quention Dodson, Lewis Melton, members of the Ben’s Branch Church of Christ, and a special thank you to Kelly, Rita, Crystal and their families.
The son of Loyd Franklin and Alice (McCutcheon) Dodson was born on Dec. 14, 1942, at Bass.
JR was a graduate of Mt. Judea schools and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Arkansas Tech. He married Kathy Eddings on Nov. 14, 1964. He was a basketball coach and school teacher at the Mt. Judea Schools for 10 years and worked an additional two years as the school principal.
JR and his wife, Kathy, were the owner/operators of Pants West Clothing Store, in Harrison, for 25 years. He also enjoyed his farming career. JR served as a minister for Ben’s Branch Church of Christ and also at Mt. Judea Church of Christ and Jasper Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, T.W. and Jerl Dodson; and three sisters, Virgie Coonts, Gertie Salmon and Mary Martin.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Kathy Dodson; one sister, Tennie Fitzgerald; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Dodson, Betty Dodson and Bonnie Eddings; Aunt Gladine Eddings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
