Special Olympics Arkansas Area 2 held their Spring Track and Field event at F.S. Garrison Stadium in Harrison on Friday, April 12. The events kicked off with a torch run featuring officers of the Harrison Police Department and Boone County Sherriff's Office at 8:30 a.m. The torch run began at the  Harrison City Hall and ended at the F.S. Garrison Stadium. more

The Oxford Handbook of Agricultural History, edited by Jeannie Whayne of the U of A Department of History, was recently published. Whayne says that agricultural history has enjoyed a rebirth in recent years, in part because of the way the agricultural enterprise promotes economic and cultural connections in an era that has become ever more globally focused. more

Mr. Richard Collins was honored for his service with the presentation of a Quilt of Valor by six members of the QOVO Chapter, from Kimberling City, MO. more

Landon Curtis grew up in this area, graduating from Valley Springs High School before finishing his education at Missouri State University. His wife, Allie, is also a Harrison native, and Curtis says they’re thankful to be raising their two boys in this community. One of his favorite quotes from the couple’s oldest son is, “Daddy cooks, Mommy cleans.” Curtis works for Anstaff Bank and serves on the board of the Buffalo National River Partners. more

Highway 392 was a busy highway going through Batavia on Monday of this week! Lots of people driving to their designated spot to watch the sun eclipse! I had the privilege of sitting on a bench on my patio and watching that spectacular event. more

The statewide gas price average in Arkansas was $3.24 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel on Thursday, according to the AAA Arkansas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is five cents more compared to that day last week and flat compared to that day last year. more

That was exciting to see on Monday April 8. We sat outside to watch the moon to cover the sun. We only got 97% but I had a good seat in my front yard with my glass of ice. I have been losing weight that way. It was great to see it and to have in your front yard than to have a lot of people traveling to see it. more

On March 26, 2024, during a regular meeting of the Harrison Colony Chapter, NSDAR, four students from area school districts received recognition as DAR Good Citizen nominees. These nominees were selected by their school districts based on the qualities they have demonstrated in dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism and were eligible to enter a scholarship essay contest sponsored by Daughters of the American Revolution at the chapter, state, and national levels. more

Paige Henderson grew up in a few small towns in Iowa and Wisconsin before moving to Arkansas. She enjoys cooking with her husband, Jason — a freelance copywriter. The couple live near Berryville, where they work from home, "I’m an IT support specialist and I love the freedom I have working remotely. It gives me the chance to live almost anywhere and I'm happy to be here in Northwest Arkansas," says Henderson. more

Folks of all ages convened on Yellville on Monday, April 8 to view the total eclipse of the sun together. The Yellville area received approximately 2 minutes and 48 seconds of totality during the eclipse, making it an appealing destination for eclipse chasers from around the country. more

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications for the 2024 Arkansas Century Farm Program. This program recognizes Arkansas families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least 100 years. The program is voluntary and there is no cost to apply. more
