SOUTHSIDE — It has become a traditional semifinal matchup.

Valley View and Harrison meet in the semifinals of the state soccer tournament. The two schools have met three out of the last four seasons.

On Saturday, Harrison won the third match between the two schools, 2-1, in the Class 4A State Soccer Tournament being held in the Batesville area. This game was played at Batesville Southside High School.

It was a rainy affair that saw heavy rains during the match. However, in the end it was the rain that caused Harrison to win the contest.

With the score tied at 1-1 at intermission, neither team was able to put a goal in the net as Harrison had several shots on goal.

However, with 6:30 left in the game sophomore Sydney Shrum kicked a ball straight into the hands of the Valley View scorekeeper.

It appeared the the keeper had secured the wet ball, but it slipped out of her hands and landed in the goal to give Harrison another trip to the state title game.

Harrison has won two state titles in the last three years. The squad won the Class 5A State Soccer Tournament in 2016 and 2017.

Harrison took the lead in the first half. Olivia Pall sent a pass to Shrum which she finished in the net  for a 1-0 Lady Goblin lead.

The Lady Blazers tied the contest before halftime.

At intermission, the scoreboard read, 1-1.

Makayla Campbell was in the goal for Harrison in the win.

Harrison will move on to play Pulaski Academy, the team that eliminated the Lady Goblins in the semifinals last year.

Pulaski Academy started the tournament with a 10-1 win over Star City in the first round of the tournament. Then the Lady Bruins turned their tournament into a run through the 4A-West.

The Lady Bruins defeated Berryville, 7-0 in the quarterfinals. Berryville was the No. 3 team from the 4A-West. On Saturday in the semifinals, the Lady Bruins met 4A-West Prairie Grove, who was the No. 2 team. Pulaski Academy won that contest, 4-0.

Now, the Lady Bruins will face the top team from in the 4A-West in the finals.
