Boil water orders issued for four systems in Boone, Newton counties

Four water systems in Boone and Newton counties are under boil-water orders, one of which was only added to the Arkansas Department of Health’s announcement Tuesday although the problem with the system was reported Friday.

Customers of Omaha Waterworks in Boone County, Compton Waterworks and Mockingbird Hill Water Association, both in Newton County, and Krooked Kreek Water Association in Boone and Newton counties are all reported to be operating under boil water orders. according the Arkansas Department of Health.

The entire system at Omaha was issued its boil order at 3:31 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, due to a water line break.

Compton’s boil order is for the entire system. It was issued at 2:37 p.m., Monday, due to low tank level and low water pressure.

Mockingbird Hill’s was issued a boil water order at 1:33 p.m. Monday, due to maintenance and related work. It affects six customers along state Highway 7 from the fairgrounds to the end of the waterline.

The Krooked Kreek Water Association’s boil order was issued Tuesday morning due to a power failure last Friday. State ADH officials told the Daily Times that a glitch in the software system prevented the notice from appearing on the health department’s website with the other notices.

A boil water order means that the consumer should briskly boil (rolling boil) any water used for drinking, for beverage or food preparation, or for dishwashing, for one minute prior to use. Ice cubes should also be discarded.

Boil orders are rescinded when an adequate disinfectant level has been established throughout the distribution system and the satisfactory completion of the bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.
