The April meeting of the Boone County Master Gardeners was held in the Fellowship Hall of St. John’s Episcopal Church, with 24 members attending. Snacks and drinks were enjoyed starting at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting opened at 6 p.m. The meeting began with a presentation from Lauren Cannon of the Ponca Nature Center on Delightful Dandelions. She began with a demonstration on making chapstick using dandelion-infused oil and other ingredients. Each member received a sample. She then gave a demonstration on how to make fried dandelions, using the blooms. A delicious sample was enjoyed by all members. During the demonstrations, she shared information on nutritional and other uses of all parts of the dandelion and provided an informational handout. Regarding our hanging baskets project, President Olena Cooper shared the following information: There are 52 baskets. April 12 will be the day to assemble the baskets at Diversified Lawn and Garden in Harrison, located at 1925 Capps Road, next to Dollar General. The following workshops will be held at the Boone County Regional Library from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. May 11 Cori Hopingardner will discuss off-grid hydroponics with a Q and A session afterwards. Olena then shared that Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. our 3rd annual Plant Sale on the Square. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
