Current Fiction Club disbands after 90 years

Imagination Library and local libraries will keep readers engaged.

Posted

Zella Harper decided to form a book club in 1933 and established the Current Fiction Book Club of Harrison and many local prominent women affiliated as charter members. During the ninety year lifetime of the organization, the Club remained an advocate for literacy. Many donations were made to the Boone County Library including books, time and money to buy every third grader in Boone County their own personal dictionary.

When the membership voted to disband the Club, it was decided to continue the legacy and donate the balance in the Club’s treasury to the Boone County Library and the Boone County Imagination Library, dividing the funds equally. The Imagination Library is dedicated to getting books into the hands of children so that the love of reading can develop and enrich our lives.
