May is a busy time of year for families. Spring is in full bloom, many are planting gardens and possibly making plans for vacations. The schools are wrapping up the school year and all the children are longing for those summer days. For the high school and college seniors this is a time of endings as they prepare to graduate but remember just like when reading a good book, though one chapter is ending another is about to begin. All of us here at the Boone County Library would like to wish the high school graduating seniors and college graduates, in our surrounding area, a warm congratulations and best wishes on your next chapter!

We here at the library are busy as well preparing for the Summer Reading program that is for children, teens and adults. The registration will begin June 1 so be on the lookout for more information to come.

Children’s Programs

Join us on Monday, May 17, any time between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to do a bouncing egg experiment. To celebrate National Egg Month, we thought we would do a fun experiment with eggs. Did you know that eggs can bounce? Stop by to see it happen and then try it yourself at home.

Storytime will be held on Wednesday, May 19, at the library at 10 a.m. This week’s story time will feature the letter “M.” Join us in person at the library or on Facebook live. Time for Adventure, where our library team travels to a new mystery location in the community to bring you a fun story and activity, occurs twice a month. The next adventure will be posted to the Children’s Department’s Facebook page on Thursday, May 20, at 10 a.m.

Adult Programs

May Puzzle for Prize is a literary themed Cryptogram. Puzzles are available at the library’s front desk or on our website at boonecountylibrary.org. Completed entries must be turned in by May 30 to be included in the monthly prize drawing.

We are continuing the cardboard painting series for this month’s take-and-make kit. This time of year it is common to see dandelions all over our yards, as children you may have closed your eyes, made a wish and then blew all the seeds off with one breath. With your kit you will create art using recycled materials and practice your creativity skills as you paint your very own dandelions. Each kit includes a cardboard panel, paint, and other supplies to create your work of art. Kits are available on a first-come basis while supplies last. On Thursday, May 20, join us from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in our downstairs meeting room for “Color Me Joyful”, an evening to relax at the Boone County Library, have some fun and get creative while you color.

Library Hours

We are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check our website and Facebook page for updates regarding hours and closures.
