New stop signs at 3 intersections

Posted

Harrison city workers were installing new stop signs Thursday at three intersections making them “all way” stop intersections.

One intersection is at Gipson Road/Rock Springs Road/Glenview Street.

And with school ready to start in less than two weeks, more stop signs were installed in the area of Skyline Heights Elementary School.

One is at the intersection of Speer Drive and Eugene Street, which turns south and dead ends on Holt Avenue if front of the school.

Another is at the intersection of Eugene Street and West Sherman Avenue.

Because the signs are newly put in place, they are marked with orange flags to increase visibility until drivers are accustomed to them.

As workers were installing the signs at the Eugene Street intersections, passing drivers stopped and thank them for making them all-way stops.

Speed cushions like those installed on Lake Shore Drive have also been installed on Holt Avenue near the school to slow down traffic. Police have in the past received complaints of problems as parents drop children off for school or pick them up.

City officials also say the speed limit on Speer Drive between West Sherman and Burls way will be lowered from from 30 mph to 25 mph.
