North Arkansas College announces first virtual career fair

Posted

North Arkansas College will host the first-ever virtual career fair on March 8-12. Live assistance will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fair is open to everyone, especially Northark students and alumni who can interact with employers offering entry-level opportunities that include full-time, part-time and professional internship positions.

Although the pandemic has changed the career fair to be held in a virtual format, the basics for job seekers remain the same. Individuals will have the opportunity to sign up for one-on-one live video chats with a variety of employers. Companies will have an opportunity to showcase who their companies are, what services they offer and the job opportunities they have available to prospective employees.

The new virtual career fair format eliminates some of the awkwardness of traditional career fairs in which people must wait for the right moment to capture an employer’s attention. Students will be able to work with employers to determine the sessions to attend and to schedule one-on-one appointments, receive instant feedback about their resume’ and potentially be hired on the spot.

College officials stress the importance of dressing appropriately, even though potential candidates do not have to leave home, it is important to be mindful of what is in the background and ensure proper lighting while on camera with employers.

Attendees can practice honing their interview skills through a free training system named Big Interview. Big Interviews is an online system that combines training and practice to help improve interview techniques and build confidence. Individuals can participate in challenging, virtual mock interviews, access a database of interview questions with recommended answers and use a Resume Builder! Big Interview is located on the Virtual Career Fair webpage.

If you are a high school student trying to make a decision about what to do after high school, a college student about to complete your educational program and enter the workforce, or an adult simply interested in a new career field, join us at the fair and explore what local employers have available.

Employer registration opens Feb.10- 24. Job Seeker registration opens March 1-12. To register to attend the event visit www.northark.edu/careerfair
