Ozark society C.A.R. shines with patriotism

Posted

The Harrison Community Based Outpatient Clinic (VA), area nursing homes and assisted living residents had welcome mail when they received Valentines from the Ozark Society Children of the American Revolution. The members made the 150 cards with the assistance of Senior Leader Cathy Carter, Tonya Sherburne and Pauline Miller. The C.A.R. has provided valentines for the past couple of years, however, this year they could only leave them with an administrative assistant. The members enjoy their conversations with the veterans and patients and were sad this year not to have any personal interaction. They also mailed cards to area WWII Veterans. The Ozark Society C.A.R. turned a portion of the Boone County Courthouse lawn into a poppy field for the Veterans Day ceremony. Members and leaders worked together to make red plastic plates into poppies and plant them on the lawn. This meaningful decoration idea had never been used by the chapter prior, and the ceremony attendees made many positive comments about the poppies. The C.A.R. members also participated in the Arkansas D.A.R. state-wide Christmas Shoeboxes for Veterans. They provided the Christmas cards which were inserted into the 15 shoeboxes donated by the Harrison Colony Chapter, N.S.D.A.R. The leaders work diligently with the members to train good citizens, develop leaders and promote love of the United States of America and its heritage among our young people. For membership information, please contact Cathy Carter at 870-577-2560.
