Planet Fitness purchased the former Fred’s location a couple of years ago. But COVID-19 delayed construction and the opening date. Now, the corporate offices have given permission to proceed with a grand opening on Monday, May 17. Pre-sales and tours of the facility will begin on Monday, April 19 at 10 a.m.
Lance Morgan, Planet Fitness Regional Director said the community is welcome to take a tour and sign up for memberships on Monday, April 19. Visit planetfitness.com to sign up for the pre-grand opening special.
The Harrison location has almost 19,000 square feet with more than 150 pieces of equipment. The cardio theater doesn’t have a time limit and includes treadmills, ellipticals, stair steppers, bikes trainers, and some equipment also works with wheelchairs.
Anyone can download the Planet Fitness app which alerts people if the gym is busy and allows a participant to scan a QR code at the equipment to record their workout. Headphones can also be plugged in to watch the variety of the mounted TV screens.
“The PF 360 room is a jungle gym for adults. You can do about anything with TRX straps and the cable towers,” Morgan said. Another workout room features 20 stations so the client can alternate between strength and cardio. A light bar on the wall alerts the person when to change stations. “It gives you a full body workout in 30 minutes.”
An online pre-grand opening signup special is currently available on the website. The classic membership has monthly dues of $10 and no long-term commitment is required at this time. There is also a PF Black Card membership which is $22.99 a month and gives access to all Planet Fitness clubs around the world and additional perks. There is a $39 annual fee for both memberships. Only the black card membership allows the member to bring a guest. The club also has hydromassage and massage chairs, tanning beds and more. Members can move up or down as needed with the memberships.
When the gym opens, hours of operation will be 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday -Friday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Planet Fitness is located at 615 Hwy. 62/65 North in the North Hills Shopping Center.
