The Shindig brings history to life

JASPER — The Shindig - Ozark Living Expo - two days of local heritage presented live through music, demonstrations, exhibits and lectures, returns to the Newton County Fairgrounds Friday and Saturday, April 25-26.
Tickets are free. Parking passes are minimum of a $5 donation.
Scheduled events begin Friday, Kids Day. Kids can experience history and agricultural science for themselves. Shindig Shenanigans will kick off Kids Day in the Wayne Cloud Arena at 8:30 a.m. followed by rotations through the exploration stations, Kids Zone, agricultural clinics, craft clinics, and exhibit scavenger hunt. Watch the children make their own rag dolls, getting their hands dirty in soil science and germination clinics, or learning to milk a goat.
A hog roast and barn dance, set from 6 - 8 p.m. featuring local music sensation 7South, will end the day.
There will be a car show on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Keynote speaker at this year's Shindig is Zac Bauer, a jack-of-all-homesteading trades. He will be teaching multiple sessions both Friday and Saturday on the subjects of: The Solar Powered Homestead, The Organized Homestead, Homesteading and Preparedness and Growing Food on a Homestead.

Zac has established a highly viewed YouTube channel offering guidance on all things homesteading such as off-grid living, sustainable food production, livestock management, gardening and self-sufficiency.
There will be other demonstrations by local craftspeople and artisans including: Blacksmithing, cold and hot process soap making, cheesemaking, Dutch oven cooking, fermenting, foraging, gardening, hatching chicks, Homesteading 101, hydraulic ram pumps, live plant starts, mushroom propagation, natural homemaking, meat processing, milking, quilting, sourdough 101, tinctures and herbal remedies, woodworking and much more.
Other entertainment will be provided by Ozark Legacy, Pam Setser Band and Fair to Middlin'.
There will be vendors and food trucks on site.
