The Oxford Handbook of Agricultural History, edited by Jeannie Whayne of the U of A Department of History, was recently published. Whayne says that agricultural history has enjoyed a rebirth in recent years, in part because of the way the agricultural enterprise promotes economic and cultural connections in an era that has become ever more globally focused.

WASHINGTON — The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has joined a high school teacher and two students who sued Arkansas over the state's ban on critical race theory and “indoctrination” in public schools, asking a federal judge to strike down the restrictions as unconstitutional.

Entries are being accepted for the annual Arkansas Grown School Garden of the Year Contest, sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Agriculture and the Farm Credit Associations of Arkansas. Applicants may be any school, early childhood education facility, or alternative learning environment that had a school garden during the 2023-2024 school year or is planning to start a garden in the 2024-2025 school year.

FORT SMITH — This week, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders joined Arkansas Secretary of Education Jacob Oliva at Harvest Time Academy in Fort Smith to announce that children of veterans, military reserve members, first responders, and law enforcement officers, as well as students who previously attended D-rated schools, are now eligible to apply for the Education Freedom Account (EFA) program.
