As the nights begin earlier and earlier and the cool breeze of autumn blows through the trees, Harrison High School will bring performances of one of America’s oldest and spookiest tales.
HHS Theatre will be presenting “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Performances will be Oct. 22-24, starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.vancoevents.com/us/DXBD.
“The Legend of Sleep Hollow” is one of the earliest stories of American fiction that has stood the test of time. Written in 1820 by Washington Irving, “Sleepy Hollow” tells the story of superstitious schoolteacher Ichabod Crane. He is in love with the daughter of a wealthy farmer and the rival to local strong man Brom Bones. Brom Bones frightens poor Ichabod with tales of the legendary Headless Horseman. One night Ichabod meets a mysterious rider. But the Headless Horseman is just a legend, isn’t he?
The classic tale has been the focus of countless books, tv shows, and movies, including part of the 1949 Disney animated film “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad,” as well as the 1999 Tim Burton film “Sleepy Hollow.” It is even the basis for a wooden rollercoaster called “The Legend” at Holiday World in Santa Clause, Ind.
