President Abraham Lincoln once said, “Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision.” Well on Monday, Boone County and Arkansas residents began their decisions.

Early Voting in the 2026 General Elections began on Monday, Oct. 19. According to election coordinator Brittany Harris, as of 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, 671 people have already cast their votes in this election. According to Harris, this is a pretty normal number, “We start off pretty strong on the first day.”
Arkansansans have many things to choose from on the ballot. Races on the ballot include those for the U.S. Senate, governor, lieutenant governor, commissioner of state lands, and secretary of state. Issues on the ballot for the state of Arkansas include amendments about voting and citizenship, the right to bear arms, creating economic districts, and a measure about natural resource commission boards.
Boone County residents will also vote on the issue of the “quarter-cent jail tax.” Harrison residents vote on a continuance of a quarter-cent tax, which has been a hotly debated topic, and residents will decide on a new mayor as well as a new city councilman.
Bergman residents will also decide on a new mayor.
Early voting will continue at the Boone County Election Center in Harrison located at 414 W. Central Ave. Early Voting hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Early voting will end on Monday, Nov. 2, with Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.
