Friends of the Library open new bookstore

Most people are aware of the standard procedure of a library. One finds a book they like, they check out the book, and a short time later they return the book so that others can read it. The Boone County Library now puts a twist on that with a novel idea.
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, the door opened for the Secondhand Stories bookstore, located inside the Boone County Library. Just past the honors book section, the painted window will let you know you are in the right spot.
According to Nancy Chapey with the Friends of the Library, they had occasionally held book sales and were inspired by other libraries doing something similar. They did this so people could “shop at a discounted rate to grow their own personal libraries.”
The stock of books comes from the public. People donate their used books to the library, and now they have a home where they can start a new life with someone else. It also consists of culled ex-Library books from the Boone County Library.
The store is open three days a week, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. These days were chosen as the busiest days for the library. On Tuesdays and Fridays, it is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, on Thursdays, the store will be open from 12:30-6:30 p.m. This was chosen so that “people with a 9-5 job could also come shop.”
The shop’s staff is entirely composed of volunteers.
With the opening of this new store, the Boone County Friends of the Library invite you to come check out what’s in store.
