Comments have been made about Hog football

I usually know a University of Arkansas board trustee.
However, my circle of life does not follow closely with the new governor and it appears that most of the new appointees are her close friends or someone that has contributed to her for her campaign.
With the Razorback football team being less than stellar this year, the trustees have decided to take a long look at the UA athletic program. In particular, the group is going to look at the Razorback football team.
Rumors that have spread stated that the school is looking to double the amount of money that is going into the Arkansas football program.
That would be great. I would love that, but would that money come at the expense of other programs on the Hill?
We seem to be very competitive in every other sport but football.
Don’t get me wrong, I want to be competitive at football. I enjoyed going to the Sugar Bowl a few years back and playing Ohio State.
That is far better than going to the Liberty Bowl and playing Kansas.
Football brings in students. Football brings in revenue. Football brings in name recognition.
The average Joe doesn’t know or care that the Arkansas school of business is one of the best in the country. That is not a big deal.
Average Joe knows that the Hog football team was embarrassed by Texas A&M on Saturday. They know they were beaten like a dog by Utah and Georgia.
That is what the Average Joe knows.
It is just like around here. No one knows what letter grade that schools got this year from the state Department of Ed. They know that Harrison won a golf title. They know that Jasper and Bergman’s basketball teams went to the Final Four.
They don’t know how the quiz bowl team did.
Taking a look at Razorback football might result in firings. The athletic director has done enough self-promotion that he should be able to get a job somewhere. Even though he hasn’t landed the two or three that he has applied for.
I hope all of the gossip is true. I hope the football program gets more money. I would love to celebrate a Top 25 ranking by the Hogs.
