SEC drops fine on Kentucky

Sometimes winning has a big price tag.

That is the case for Kentucky after a game on Saturday against LSU.
The overtime thriller saw the Wildcats earn a victory over LSU at Kroger Field. The game was in overtime and LSU had just scored and kicked the extra point to go ahead, 34-27.
Kentucky then scored and instead of kicking the extra point, they decided to go for a two-point conversion to win the game.
The quarterback moved easily into the end zone to give the Wildcats an SEC victory.
After the win, the student body for Kentucky started to storm the field. That action cost Wildcat Nation.
Kentucky was fined for violating the league’s “access to competition area” rule.
In previous years when a school violated the rule, they were placed in a graduating fine schedule.
The fine was $100K for the first offense; $250K for the second time; half a million for the third time and then $1M for each time after that.
In 2025 the SEC rule changed.
Kentucky received a bill for $500K on Sunday from the SEC league office. The money does not come to the SEC office, but the fine is directly paid to LSU.
The Tigers lost the game, but they received $500K for their trip to Lexington.
This marks the second time that the new SEC rule has applied to a team. Last season Mississippi State defeated No. 12 Arizona State, 24-20.
The Bulldogs received their bill for storming the field. However, since it was a non-conference contest, the money went into the SEC general fund.
