CAMP ORR — The Boy Scouts of America changed its name last February to Scouting America. This change reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to welcoming every youth in America to experience the benefits of Scouting. The name change coincided with the organization's 115th birthday, Feb. 8. Other changes have also been announced, locally. Last November, the Quapaw Area Council and Westark Area Council merged to form The Natural State Council. Camp Orr, located within the boundaries of the Buffalo National River in Newton County is under the administration of the new council. more
For two hours this morning, Redeeming the Thyme Farmstand and Gifts here in Lead Hill, at Hwy 7 and 14, will have Lucas Madison (owner of Big Bob's Bait and Tackle) giving us his favorite tips for fishing the lake! He's fished and Won many tournaments and knows a thing or two about catching the big one. Be here at 10 am with a lawn chair, you're best bud, and a little spending money and make some fishing dreams come true! more
May Meeting more
We have had several days with rain showers here in Batavia. The grass is growing like weeds and the trees are a beautiful green color. The weather is that just right temperature. But according to the weather forecast for the next several days it is going to get hot and I will be singing a different tune. I guess we can't have it our way all of the time. more
Wow, did I ever get caught out on the rain today on taco Tuesday. I went to town and done some honey do errands. Went to Jamies Restaurant and tried the small open face roast beef and it was good and it was pouring down rain. I just got upset when I met a car with no lights on and it rain so hard that you couldn’t see it. When you got your wiper blades on be kind and turn your lights on. more
Greetings from Capps. I'm going to pretend like nothing happened the week before last since I missed my deadline but it was a crazy week with finals at school, etc so now with things settled down I'm back on track. more

Emma Melby is 28-year-old visual artist who recently relocated to Eureka Springs. "It's such a vibrant little town," she shared, "I’m surrounded by the arts." Melby made the move to Eureka from Des Moines with her senior cats, Luna and Apollo, last winter. "Everything was so beautiful when it was snowing late last year, and I enjoyed just staying home - cooking up cozy foods," said Melby. more

BRANSON — Quilts of Valor of the Ozarks (QOVO) was honored to host Linda Martien, Missouri State Coordinator for Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF) at their inaugural membership meeting held May 6 in Kimberling City. Linda congratulated the newly organized chapter on their drive and passion to celebrate veterans in the Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas region. more
During the City Advertising Tourist Promotion Commission (CATPC) meeting on April 25, Mayor Jerry Jackson mentioned three new eateries opening in downtown Harrison but was not allowed to divulge further details at that time. The commissioners were very excited and anxious to hear all the details. more
Being a parent is a huge — probably the biggest responsibility a person can have. It’s like being a doctor, a teacher, a counselor, a chef…I could go on, all rolled into one big life-long responsibility. It seems that it should feel more overwhelming but somehow — through our culture, genetic wiring or some kind of divine grace, most of us manage to get it right and raise children we are proud to brag about to anyone willing to listen. more
The Batavia Friendship Club met at the Batavia Baptist Church on May 6. There were 15 ladies present. We enjoyed a potluck lunch together.The Mexican decor was hosted by Patricia Wray, Betty Marrow and Josephine Perry. more

The Twentieth Century Club met May 2, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church with Katie Holt, Chris Royston, and Paula Ragan serving as hostesses. President Mary Speice called the meeting to order and Vice President Vicki Hinrichs led the group in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. more
