The conference in the 3A-2 is beginning to take shape.
Melbourne and Newport have earned playoff spots in the Class 3A State Football Playoffs. However, the league title will be determined on the last night of the regular season, Nov. 6, as the two teams meet on the gridiron.
With two games left, Quitman and Mountain View are each a win away from cementing a playoff spot while Salem owns the tie-breaker over Yellville-Summit for the fifth spot.
On Friday night, Newport ran away from Marshall, 64-0, while Melbourne defeated the Panthers, 41-12.
Mountain View downed Salem, 20-8, and Quitman had an easy time with Riverview, 42-7.
In action on Friday night, Quitman visits Salem, in the game of the week in the league.
In other action, the Panthers of Yellville-Summit have to win on Friday when hosting Newport to have a shot at the playoffs. A loss will eliminate the team from the postseason.
Marshall will host Melbourne and Mountain View will travel to Riverview to round out the action.
In the final week of the season, Yellville-Summit will host Marshall in the renewal of the Battle of the Buffalo. The winner of the game gets the paddle to keep.
The rivalry was ended when the Bobcats moved to 8-man football for three cycles. Marshall returned to 11-man football this year.
In the game of the week in 3A on the final regular season week, Melbourne travels to Newport. The winner will be the top seed from the league, no matter what happens with this week’s action.
Quitman and Mountain View will play in the last regular season game. It should probably determine the third and fourth seeds from the league.
Salem and Riverview meet in the other game.
