Jonesboro man sentenced for child pornography

LITTLE ROCK — Justin Lee Palmer, who “coached” young girls who were anorexic and encouraged them to self-harm and film child pornography, will spend 30 years in federal prison for production of child pornography. Jonathan D. Ross, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, announced the sentence, which was handed down on Thursday by Chief United States District Judge Kristine G. Baker.

Wilson Marseilles, outgoing president and CEO of the Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce, shared this week that the Harrison Chamber Board of Directors has selected an interim president for the Chamber.

Creekside opening day announced

On Thursday, Mayor Jerry Jackson announced the scheduled opening day for the new Creekside Community Center at the regular meeting of city council. The mayor announced that October 12 will be the big day, with plans being made for a morning event. Further details about the big opening will be announced later.

Rushdie attacker arraigned

Hadi Matar, 26, of Fairview, New Jersey, was arraigned this week in federal court in connection with attempting to provide material support to Hizballah, a designated foreign terrorist organization; engaging in an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries; and providing material support to terrorists.
41-year-old Clyde Holmes (AKA Clyde Boatwright, Jr.) of Little Rock, was last seen in Little Rock July 10. Missing man's truck found in Newton

JASPER — Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler said that on Thursday, July 11, Newton County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an abandoned truck on a county road off Highway 74 East between Jasper and Piercetown. A deputy responded to the area and located the truck still on the county road, but pulled to one side so traffic could squeeze by.

Council condemns home

Harrison City Council met in regular session on Thursday, July 25. Among the agenda items at the meeting was the condemnation request for a property located at 801 North Chestnut. A hole in the roof  of the structure has been haphazardly patched with a tarp, but this ineffective repair has led to the building becoming more and more unstable over time.

Harrison man shot, killed in Mississippi

41 year-old Dustin Patton of Harrison was shot in Coahoma County, Miss. on Tuesday, July 19, between 9 p.m and 11 p.m. The shooting occurred near Friar’s Point, Miss. — a small town of approximately 900 citizens, located approximately 75 miles southeast of Memphis.

The Bergman Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene of a two vehicle motor vehicle accident on Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 7 and Missouri Ave.

Flooding affects region, officials respond

Several counties in the state reported damages to their infrastructure, road closures, and evacuations after storms swept through early Wednesday morning. The Arkansas Department of Public Safety (ADS) reported Baxter, Cleburne, Conway, Faulkner, Lawrence, Marion, Searcy, and Stone counties were among those affected. Many citizens in affected areas found themselves displaced but aid was quickly in place to help them.
