Howard Dean Curtis, 82, of Judsonia, departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 25 (2008). He was the son of Howard and Cassie Curtis of Lead Hill. After graduating from Lead Hill High School, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and spent most of his deployment in Italy, serving as a medical technician at the 392nd General Hospital, attending the war-wounded. He received an education degree at Harding College, and became a school teacher, coach and high school principal. After retirement, he worked for the Arkansas Stabilization Conservation Service and the Soil Conservation Service until full retirement.

Dean loved teaching and helping others. He worked hard and played hard. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He led singing for worship services in the Church of Christ, for funerals, and Gospel meetings over the county. He was an elder and a Bible class teacher in the Church of Christ for over 40 years.

Dean leaves a large family including his wife, Glenave of 57 years; four children, Donna Root and husband Mike, Kathy Haugh and Kevin, Carol Kell, and Randy Curtis and wife Brenda; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Frank and wife Earline, Burl and wife Evelyn and Ervin and wife Pauline; a brother-in-law, Jerry Eubanks and wife Barbara; and a host of nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice and a brother, Harl.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 28, at the Church of Christ on Jackson Street in Judsonia. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. immediately following visitation. Burial will be at Bethlehem Cemetery in the Plainview community.
