Joe D. Edwards, age 71 of Harrison, passed away Tuesday, May 28 (2019) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Harrison.

The son of James Herbert and Lillian Modean (Roberts) Edwards was born April 9, 1948, in Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joe was a member of the Bellefonte Church of Christ and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. He liked to play golf and to treasure hunt with his metal detector at old home places and Civil War battlefields.

Joe was a Harrison City Police Reserve Officer for 17 years and was very proud of the community service. At age 59, he became a full-time police officer after graduating from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in Camden.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Edwards; his sons, Kris Edwards and wife Sonya, Todd Edwards and wife Misty, and Ryan Edwards and wife Leigh, all of Harrison; and his grandchildren, Shelby Parker and husband Arren, of Huntsville, Alabama, Savannah Brathwaite and husband David, of Jonesboro, Gatlin Edwards and Jaxon Edwards, both of Harrison.

He is also survived by his brother, Danny Edwards and wife Linda Jo, of Omaha, and his sisters, Joyce Collins and husband Bill, of Harrison, Linda Taylor and husband Ken, of Omaha, and Sandy Atchison and husband Frank, of Parkville, Missouri.

Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Bellefonte Church of Christ.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Greenhaw, Bill Collins, Herb Lair, Robert Meek, and Joe's grandsons, Gatlin and Jaxon Edwards.
