May is Motorcycle Awareness Month and motorcyclists are gearing up to enjoy the scenery in the Ozarks and across the nation. Harrison Mayor Jerry Jackson signed a proclamation in the company of local members of Arkansas Bikers Aiming Toward Education (ABATE) to publicly urging all citizens to increase awareness of motorcycles on the roads, develop safer driving habits and make the roads of Harrison safer for all motorcyclists and vehicles.
A motorcycle poker run will take place Saturday, May 15, beginning at Minnie Harris Park. The first bikes will take to the trail at 9 a.m. and head to Alpena and on to Kingston before they return. The last bikes will leave by 11 a.m. Charges are $5 per hand, $1 for each extra card and $1 for each mulligan.
Motorcycle Awareness Month continues the following Saturday, May 22, with a group ride to benefit Grandma’s House Children’s Advocacy Center. Participants can bring $10 Walmart gift cards, non-crocheted blankets for 3 to 18 year olds or copy paper to help the center. The first start will begin in Harrison at 9 a.m. and go to Mountain Home. The second start will begin in Mountain Home on the square at 10 a.m. Tours of Grandma’s House in Berryville will be virtual.
