Charles L. Dunlap

Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with burial at Cedar Grove Cemetery; Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the funeral home.

Charles L. Dunlap, age 77, died Saturday, Feb. 16 (2013).  Charles was born on Oct. 12, 1935, the son of Garvin and Ruth (Eoff) Dunlap.

Services for Mr. Dunlap will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery following the services.

Pallbearers will be James Barrick, Brandon Mace, Trevor Mace, Eric Lovelace, D.J. Collins and Vince Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Holt, Jackie Joe Hudson, Bud Dietz, Sam Scroggins, Danny Villines, Sam Tinsley, James Riggs, Roy Vannoy, Bill Parker, Brock Riggs, Robert Holt and John Taylor.

Charles is survived by his wife Charlene (Lewis) Dunlap, of Lead Hill; daughters Debra Harp and husband, Carl, of Lead Hill and Tina Ames, from Lowell; step-children, Steve Simmons and Carol Sands; brother, Garvin Dunlap and wife, Lavone; 10 grandchildren, Misty Creamer, Mindy and husband Eric Lovelace, Mandy Collins and husband D.J., James Barrick and wife Jennifer, Amber Ames, Brandon Mace and wife Justina, Lacy Frost and husband Chad, Tori Simmons, Trevor Mace and wife Jessica, and Cassidy Sands; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Charles was classified as a Nuclear Vet having served in the Navy for four years and being involved in the nuclear testing of the atomic bombs. He was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, in 1954. He served in Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, Adak Aleutian Islands, Phillipines-Suvicady Navy Base, Bakini Atoll-Enewetak Atoll, NVC Territory, ship USS Boxer CVS21, eight months then Bangkok before returning home.

Charles worked for Magness Buick more than 20 years as a front end alignment tech. He loved spending time outdoors. He and Charlene traveled in their RV out West, especially Colorado, for many years. They spent time on those vacations riding their ATVs in the Rocky Mountains and sightseeing. He enjoyed deer and elk hunting and the challenge of long range shooting for prairie dogs in the Western states. When he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors you could find him many days around the fireplace sharing stories at Jack Buddy Holt’s store with friends.
