Dear Harrison Community,

Posted

I wanted to take a moment to address the importance of maintaining a constructive and optimistic mindset, especially in the face of challenges. Allowing negativity to dictate our attitudes can hinder our ability to focus on projects that have the potential to impact everyone in our community positively.

We value the input of the citizens of Harrison and surrounding counties and encourage a culture of mutual respect. In today's information age, it's crucial not to believe everything we see on social media or in various communications, such as flyers mailed to you anonymously containing lies. There are times when public servants face unwarranted criticism from small groups with opposing views. It's part of the journey for those striving to serve the majority.

Our objective is to concentrate on the positive aspects of life, fostering a more fulfilling and optimistic outlook for everyone. We can achieve incredible things together when we focus on the good and work toward making Harrison an even better place to live, work, and play.

As your mayor, I am committed to enhancing the quality of life for all ages. The recent introduction of the Creekside Community Center with an Aquatics Center is just one example of our dedication. We are also working on additional sidewalks, walking and biking trails to promote an active lifestyle. Our vision is to make Harrison one of the healthiest places to live.

Infrastructure improvements are underway, such as better streets and improved street lighting. Investments in our Fire and Police departments, including a new facility, ladder truck, and police cars, have been made to ensure the safety of our community.

Public works have recently received many improvements, including a new snow plow, leaf pick-up truck, and a new tub grinder amounting to over a million dollars. Parks are receiving attention, with initiatives like new turf, covered bleachers on ballfields, a new adult softball field at Creekside, and general enhancements to all our park areas.

I almost forgot our new 35,000 square feet City Hall/Public Safety Building that has become a showplace for the area, providing wonderful working conditions and a facility that has helped significantly increase morale.

I have surrounded myself with a remarkable group of department heads, and financially, we are in the best position ever, increasing our reserves substantially while upgrading all departments.

Through collaboration with our Chamber, we are actively pursuing new businesses to strengthen our local economy further. We aim to improve our physical surroundings and cultivate a spirit of warmth and welcome for everyone in our community. Your support and engagement are invaluable as we build a thriving Harrison. Significant events are on the horizon for our city next year.

As we approach the holiday season, let's not forget the true meaning of Christmas and cherish the time spent with family and friends.

Sincerely,

Mayor Jackson
