EHC meeting notes

Faye Carter opened the Boone County Extension Board meeting Feb. 2 at 9 a.m. Members present were Williamson and Rhonda Laborde representing the Sewciety Club; Brisco and Carter represented Nightingales club and Sharp and Emily Woodard came from Grubb Springs club and county agent Tamara Allen. Brisco gave the treasurer’s report. She ordered 120 pounds of pecans, when all were sold she ordered 30 more pounds She still has 14 pounds These are $10 per pound. The Spring Education Conference is usually held at the Vines Center. Not sure where it will be held this year. More information will be in the EHC newsletter about the AECH State meeting and the 2021 district rally. Allen handed out all the monthly programs thru April. March 15 begins the Walk Across America, everyone is encouraged to participate. The Diamond City group have decided to become an Extension Homemakers Club. Some of the members volunteer at the Food Bank. The year books in the past have been for one year but the next one will be for two years. A yearbook committee will be formed. Brisco will get some club members to join her on preparing the next book. It was suggested that we sell ads in the program books to help cover expenses to get them printed. Cost for ads could range from $5 to $40. The storage closet at the extension office needs to be cleaned out and some sewing machines need to find new homes. Glenda Cantrell and Marilyn Scroggins have been making masks. Hospitals and schools have been asking for them. They cannot accept them if you have a pet in the home or if someone smokes. Grubb springs Club has been giving scholarships to Boone County high school seniors for many years. They were not able to have their fundraiser (The Gingerbread House) in 2020, so they will not be giving a scholarship in 2021. Allen suggested the County Council give a scholarship this year. Brisco made a motion to give at least one scholarship to a Boone County senior graduating in 2021. Laborde discussed the Barn Quilt Trail that is being encouraged across the state. They are hoping to have at least 12 in each county. There will be a meeting for the Barn Quilt Trail the 1st Thursday in April at the fairgrounds beginning at 10 a.m. Teaching classes were discussed as a possibility for an extension project. The notebook that was kept for the quilting workshops is missing. A new one will be started since there will be new ideas for upcoming workshops. There will be a committee meeting March 3 at 10 a.m. to work on plans for the quilt workshop in 2022. It was suggested that more clubs be involved so preparations and work can be shared. Some suggestions for the workshops would be to have different speakers, educations programs, teaching, etc. Ten thousand meals have been packed for the program called Million Meals for Arkansas residents. The House of Hope and Share and Care need volunteers. Boone County and neighboring counties are planning to have their fairs this year.
