From the Chamber’s President/CEO … February 2021

Posted

I said it last year at this time, and it’s true again … your premier business influencer in Harrison and Boone County – the Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce – is off to a great year, and January set the stage.

Continuing to embrace some form of ‘new normal’ and deal with the stress of COVID-19, we held our Annual Meeting – sponsored by Equity Bank – virtually on January 21 and packed a lot into the one-hour YouTube event. Our Board of Directors reviewed the past year’s many accomplishments and looked ahead to a full year of mission-focused work. We recognized our adult and youth leadership programs and paid tribute to key community members and organizations for their commitment and work to make Harrison and Boone County a better place to live, work, retire and play.

We also heard from Donnie Hampton, Jr, the new CEO of our own Pace Industries, who highlighted their value of technology and community support. We had 28 businesses host ‘watch parties’ with their associates and friends, and from all reports, a good time was had by all! The meeting ‘lives’ on YouTube, so if you haven’t yet watched it, please do. We have so much to be thankful for here, and the Chamber is pleased to be part of it.

Your Chamber’s committees are already hard at work, tackling issues important to the business community. The Public Policy Committee, chaired by Jim Holland, president, Phillips Media, will be focusing on legislation taken up by the Arkansas General Assembly. The Economic Development Committee, chaired by Scott Tennyson, Arvest Community Bank president, will focus on the Chamber’s economic development accreditation, the Business, Retention and Expansion program, and business recruitment. With Joan Bell, Shelter Insurance, as chair, the Marketing and Communications Committee will work to get our message to the public. Both elected Chamber Directors and community members are involved in each of these efforts.

None of our work is possible without the great partnerships we value. FedEx Freight and DSI are our Pinnacle Partners. First National Bank of North Arkansas, Cox Business and Anstaff Bank are Chairman’s Circle members. Sam Alexander Health Mart Pharmacy, Stone Bank, Coldwell Banker Homestead Realty, First Community Bank and CS Bank are members of the President’s Circle. And very important, Arvest Bank’s multi-year investment continues to provide the Chamber state-of-the-art technology to move us forward. These businesses, coupled with the economic development partnerships with the City of Harrison and Boone County – and our over 385 investors – make it possible to be the ever-growing, powerful voice for business and economic development in Harrison and the Boone County region.

We have several major projects underway, and more planned. Be sure and follow us on social media platforms, catch our updates on YouTube and read The Connection weekly newsletter for more information. Thanks to the community for the fantastic support of your Chamber.

We are…taking care of business! Cheers, Bob

Robert “Bob” Largent
