Grubb Springs EHC monthly meeting notes

Posted
The Grubb Springs Extension Homemakers Club met Thursday, Aug.19, at 12:45 p.m. The meeting was opened with the pledge to the American flag. Roll call was answered by members telling what birthday or anniversary they celebrate in August. Eight members turned in a total of 70 volunteer work hours. Carolyn Luallen passed around copies of the treasurer’s report. We did not have to buy propane this year since we did not have meetings during the winter and spring. We usually buy the fuel in July since it is cheaper. As the saying goes “there’s no great loss without some small gain.” Nancy Sharp read the Minutes from the July meeting. The program was titled “Staycation in the Ozarks—Day Trips.” Books were passed out to each member highlighting vacation destinations in Arkansas. Arkansas has 52 state parks. There are a variety of activities at these parks and are worth checking into. Our club will not be having the Gingerbread House craft and bake sale this year. COVID-19 concerns are still a consideration. Our club members will be working at the Country Store at the County and District Fairs on Wednesdays, Sept. 15, Sept. 22 and on Friday, the Sept. 24. The Country Store is usually by the main door of the exhibit building. This year we will be at the opposite end of the building. Hopefully our sales will still be good. There will be crafts, baked goods, RADA knives and pecans for sale. The money raised from sales goes to the Extension Homemakers county council. Last year we were able to give scholarships to two seniors along with other projects around the county. Volunteer hours for the Boone County clubs the past year were 5,118 hours. Clubs collected 834 pounds of non-perishable food for House of Hope and Cottages. More than 280 masks were made and sent to the Veterans Hospital. Senior day will be during the District fair Sept. 22 and will open at 9 a.m. Three club members attended a workshop for fair volunteers. They will help during judging at the county fair. The Thought for the Day was a poem read by Sharp: I feel close to God in the morning when the day is fresh & new, The birds are singing even they can praise him, I have an optimistic view. I feel closer to God at noon day when things are moving too fast, He is my Rock, the strength of my life, He will keep me til this day is past. I feel closest to God in the evening when slumber time comes to call, cares of the day are heavy He says “sleep peacefully I’ll take them all”. Meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be Sept.16, at 12:45 pm at the Grubb Springs community building. . —Submitted by Nancy Sharp
