Greetings from Capps. Sorry about missing last week, there was just too much week in my week. I hate to disappoint my loyal readers and I really appreciate the feedback I get from so many folks. It really started to feel Fallish last week with Gaither Mountain and Pilot Knob starting to change colors. Our maples are gorgeous this year, they’ve finally grown back up in the driveway where I had to cut them back for the delivery of our cabin 5 years ago, although Entergy whacked a few when they came through in September. It’s really been a beautiful fall so far but colder weather is on the horizon. That will make the livestock happy as some of the flies will go away for a while but the grass will get skimpy also. Time to get plenty of hay and firewood stocked up (and a supply of good reading material) for the colder months ahead. Capps Batavia Fire had a few calls last week, an accident and a small brush fire, thankfully nothing major but with colder weather arriving, it’s a good time to make sure your chimney flue is clean and gas heaters are functioning properly. A good natural gas and carbon monoxide detector is helpful also. Our new neighbors next door are settling in and their purebred Australian Shepherd just had 11 puppies! He has a fencing business and I’ve already helped him on one job. They both worked at Hillcrest and I guess that’s where they met. They’ve already been a big help to us and hope we are to them also. Blessings, Doug
